I didn’t plan to stop in St Abbs. It was one of those unhurried coastal drives, just a camera and a flask of coffee, letting the road decide. The village revealed itself quietly under low, soft-grey skies, moving at its own rhythm. No spectacle, no crowds. Just boats rocking gently in the harbour and the calm presence of the sea.
One small boat caught my attention. Still, almost suspended, resting between cliffs and horizon. I photographed it first from the harbour, then later from above, climbing the cliffs as the light slowly shifted. From that height, the boat felt even more fragile against the vast, flat surface of the water.
This series grew from that simplicity. Minimal forms, muted tones, and moments that ask nothing more than time and attention. FLOAT is about stillness, balance, and the quiet pull of the coast. A photograph for spaces that value calm, restraint, and breathing room.
