Street, Space and Quiet Observation
I’m Tom Zawadzki,
I’d like to think of myself as a photographer.
My work is focused on street photography, urban life and quiet observation. I photograph people, space, light and movement in real places. Most of the images are made while walking through the city without a fixed plan.
Currently I work in square format. I use square format because it suits the way I see. It keeps the frame simple and focused.
Black and white photography is a major part of my work, but it is not the only direction. Some photographs work better in colour. Others work better in black and white.
I live in Edinburgh, but my photography is not tied to one city. I carry a camera almost everywhere. I’m interested in streets, stations, coastlines, public spaces and the small moments that happen between them.
Selected images are available as fine art prints. They are made for people who want photography made by a person not by the algorithm.
Approach
I work without a script.
I don’t plan scenes or direct moments.
I walk, observe, and wait.
Light and structure do most of the work.
Mood matters more than perfection.
Print Philosophy
I believe photographs should exist outside the screen.
Printing slows the image down and gives it weight.
My prints are made to last.
Fine art papers. Careful production. No excess.
Each piece is intended for quiet spaces and long looking.
